CCCWVCA Players of the Week #8 includes SBCC triple-double performer
Grossmont College outside hitter Andrea Torres, Santa Barbara City setter-opposite Stephanie Groswirt and Sacramento City libero Mariah Azua are CCCWVCA State Players of the Week #8.
Torres, a 5-foot-10 sophomore from Otay Ranch High in Chula Vista, totaled 32 kills in a pair of Grossmont wins over Palomar and Imperial Valley. She slammed 18 kills, hit .500 and added two solo blocks v. Palomar and collected two blocks and six digs v. IVC.
Groswirt, a 5-8 redshirt freshman from Bonita High in La Verne, performed her fourth triple-double of the season in a 4-set SBCC victory over Ventura. In that match, she landed 13 kills (hit .306) dished out 21 assists, and made 14 digs while also adding three blocks. Groswirt is the third different Vaquero to be honored as a POTW this season.
Azua, a 5-1 freshman from Lodi High, was a defensive machine in totaling a season-high 32 digs and serving three aces Sacramento's 4-set win over Modesto, then picking up 22 digs in a Panthers sweep over Folsom Lake. She is fifth in the state in total digs this season and is averaging 3.92 per set.
