The seedings for the California Community College women's volleyball playoffs were released Tuesday, and while Feather River will have to accept the #3 seed in the North, the Golden Eagles proved it did enough to earn the #1 ranking on the final regular season CCCWVCA State Top 25.
RPI, a ratings system that computes win percentage and other factors to determine official seeds, but puts a premium on conference-only RPI, affected a number of teams in their seeding for the regionals. It hurt FRC, the defending 3C2A state champion, as it fell to #3 in the NorCal seedings behind the region's #1 San Joaquin Delta and #2 Taft.
Feather River led the state in victories with 32, beat NCAA Division III UC Santa Cruz, and had victories over South #1 seed San Diego Mesa (a sweep for its only loss), and North #1 seed San Joaquin Delta (also a sweep for its lone defeat). North #2 seed Taft was the only team to beat FRC in five sets on Sept. 26.
San Diego Mesa managed to earn the #1 seed from the South and kept its state No. 2 rank, Delta came in at 3, regular season undefeated Orange Coast at 4, red-hot Taft at 5, LA Mission, third in the super tough Western State North, climbed six spots to No. 6, Santa Monica at 7, Santa Barbara at 8, Mt. San Antonio at 9, and Fresno City at 10 to complete the top 10.
Teams that trended upward were San Diego Miramar moving up three slots to #13 and Ventura with a strong finish to push up three positions to #15.
MiraCosta leaped back on to the Top 25 at #23 despite finishing in fifth place in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
Monterey Peninsula received a coveted NorCal #4 seed and is No. 18 in the final regular season state rankings.
Round 1 of the Regional Playoffs take place with eight matches on Saturday, Nov. 22 (see brackets above).
Cuesta and Grossmont, ranked #21 on the Nov. 3 rankings, were two teams that seemed to have playoff pedigree, but did not qualify as part of the South 20-team field.
