Lake Tahoe leapfrogs Fresno City for No. 1 spot in Week 3 CCCSIA Poll
RIVERSIDE - Lake Tahoe and Fresno City faced off last Friday in a clash of the best and the contest ended in a draw. Nevertheless, Lake Tahoe was seen as the favorite for the top spot in this week’s California Community College Athletic Association (CCCSIA) poll. The top seven squads still remain undefeated with a combined record of 45-0-8.
After earning the second-place ranking in the first three polls of the season, a draw with the top squad earned Lake Tahoe the number one overall position. They held a five-game winning streak prior to facing off against No. 2 Fresno City, but they hopped back on the winning train with a victory over Las Positas the following week. Goalkeeper Melanie Jimenez has pioneered the efforts and has not allowed a single goal in 278 minutes of action between the pipes.
No. 2 Fresno City dropped just one slot after the tie with top ranked Lake Tahoe after they allowed their first netter in the contest. They rebounded to defeat Diablo valley, 4-1. No. 3 Cypress continues to hold strong in the third position with two more victories to hold a flawless 6-0. They begin conference play next week.
No. 6 San Joaquin Delta, No. 8 Sierra and No. 10 Santa Ana all move up in the rankings after another strong week. It is the first time this season Santa Ana has earned a top-10 position, while No. 8 Sierra continues to be a staple in the rankings.
No. 15 Santa Monica shoots up to round out the top-15 after not receiving a single vote the previous week. No. 17 Ventura and No. 20 American River break into the rankings after receiving votes the previous week.
