San Mateo still on top; Mt. San Antonio is No. 2 in latest football coaches poll
SAN MATEO – While defending 3C2A state champion College of San Mateo continues its early season-long run atop the JC Athletic Bureau’s poll of California Community College Football Coaches members, there is a general shake-up in this week’s poll.
CSM handled Reedley, 24-7, continuing a run of not yet allowing a defensive TD this season., Golden West knocked off formerly No. 2 Riverside, 42-35, sending the Tigers down to No 8 this week. Golden West (2-0) moves up to a fifth-place tie with El Camino (2-0), which defeated formerly No. 18 College of the Canyons, 17-13. COC (0-2) fell to No. 23.
Mt. San Antonio (2-0), the 2024 state runners-up, defeated No. 9. San Diego Mesa, 21-18, and is up a notch to No. 2 this week with 308 points, heading into a Saturday meeting with El Camino. CSM (2-0) had 12 of the 13 first-place votes and 324 total points.
Modesto (2-0) defeated No. 18 Santa Rosa, 27-20 and moved up a place to No. 3 this week, going into Saturday’s showdown at San Mateo – a repeat of last year’s Northern California title contest, won by the Bulldogs. CSM has a state-leading 12-game winning streak, dating to a non-league setback at Modesto last season. San Mateo has won 24 consecutive home games, which includes the 2022 and 2024 state championships.
No. 4 Butte (2-0) entertains No. 22 City College of San Francisco (1-1) as non-league play continues for all teams. Golden West hosts No. 21 Allan Hancock (1-1). Other top match-ups: No. 11 Bakersfield (2-0) at No. 7 Ventura (2-0); No. 23 Canyons (0-2) at No. 8 Riverside (1-1), No. 9 Diablo Valley (2-0) at Redwoods (0-2), No. 10 Saddleback (2-0) at No.17 Fullerton (1-1).
