Round 2 Women's Hoops Regionals a high seeds delight
3C2A Women's Basketball Regional Brackets: NorCal l SoCal
Fifteen of the 16 high seeds advanced in Round 2 of the 3C2A Women's Basketball Regionals held Saturday night.
Only South #10 Grossmont scored an upset as the Griffins downed #7 Mt. San Jacinto, 67-59.
In that contest, the Griffins stormed out in front, 23-16, after one quarter and 38-25 by halftime as the host Eagles shot poorly from the field, making just 9-for-45.
In the second half, MSCJ roared back, ultimately cutting it to one at 60-59 on Drasoni Kyles 3-pointer with less than a minute left. But Grossmont's Kyla Palpallatoc sank six straight free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Palpallatoc finished with 24 points (9-for-12 from the line) while Anayla Anderson tallied 22 points (6-for-7 on FTs) with eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Princess McCauley led Mt. San Jacinto on 13 points, six rebounds and five steals.

NORTH
#1 Sequoias 98, #16 Cabrillo 57: The Giants kept their perfect season going (29-0) and ran away in this contest thanks to 16 shots from beyond the 3-point arc, seven by Morgan Trigueiro, who poured in 29 points. North State Player of the Year Jocelyn Medina was as advertised in scoring 22 points (four treys), grabbing 13 rebounds, dishing out eight assists and making three steals. Kaitlin Giacone added 12 points, 11 boards and seven helpers. The Seahawks also got seven 3s and 21 points by Sydney Chestnut and 21 points as well from Gabby Brooks.
#2 San Joaquin Delta 70, #18 San Mateo 51: The Mustangs got into a scoring battle in the first quarter, taking a 25-22 lead, but then went into shutdown mode on defense, limiting the Bulldogs to just 14 points combined in the second and third periods to take control and advance. Kiara Council swished four 3-pointers as part of her 16 points and Aailyah Youngblood added 14 points, five assists and five steals.
#3 Sierra 79, Cosumnes River 64: The Wolverines lost their first Big 8 matchup v. the Hawks, then won the regular season finale, 77-68, only to face them again a week later in this playoff triumph. Katie Leeth was a perfect 11-for-11 at the line and 9-of-14 from the floor as she posted 32 points, 12 rebounds and a dominating seven blocked shots. Also for Sierra, Mikayla Bumgarner netted 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds. CRC did lead 18-17 after one quarter, but Sierra pulled ahead and never looked back.
#4 San Jose City 75, #13 Santa Rosa 46: The Jaguars ran their win streak to 24 games but the Bear Cubs hung tough in the first half, only trailing 36-32. In the second half, San Jose seized control and outscored SJRC, 39-14, the final 20 minutes. Synise Byrd drained five 3s as part of her 21 points plus 11 rebounds while Alyssa Malla had a points-assists double-double on 15 points and 11 helpers. For Santa Rosa, Ivy Gonzalez contributed 12 points and 10 rebounds.
#5 Folsom Lake 89, #12 Chabot 46: The Falcons were paced by Athena Brombacher with 18 points, nine rebounds and six assists and Gianna Darte with 16 points (four treys) in the rout over the Gladiators.
#6 Laney 75, #22 Skyline 55: Madison Hill buried an amazing nine 3-pointers and scored 29 points and was one of four Eagles with five steals each as they built on a 26-22 halftime lead to put away the Trojans. Keytona Ross added 16 points as Laney won its 13th straight contest.
#7 CC San Francisco 58, #10 Shasta 43: The Rams trailed the Knights, 26-22, at halftime and led just 37-36 with less than two minutes left in the third quarter. At that point, backup post player Malea Scobie hit a layup and made two free throws, then Paris Kaea got an offensive rebound and hit a buzzer beater jumper for a 7-point lead going into the final 10 minutes. CCSF played tight defense the rest of the way to advance. Alessandra Nelson (plus five assists and four blocks) and Jacqueline Cox each led the squad with 13 points each as San Francisco won its 12th in a row.
#8 Fresno City 74, #9 Butte 72: The Rams led just 35-32 at halftime, but never let the Roadrunners catch up in pulling out a 2-point win. FCC built the lead to 10, but Butte cut it to two before Genevieve Tamondong sank two free throws with 6.7 seconds left for what proved to be the winning points. T'Yanna Armstrong scored 19 points and Devin Miller added 17 points and 10 rebounds.
SOUTH
#1 Orange Coast 79, Irvine Valley 55: The Pirates are trying for a third straight 3C2A championship and opened the '25 postseason by beating fellow Orange Empire Conference foe the Lasers for the third time and second game in a row. OCC won the regular season finale by just four points (53-49) and established it would refuse to play it close again as it outscored IVC, 20-4, in the opening quarter. Orange Coast built that lead to 39-16 by halftime and never looked back. Myia Collins posted a triple-double on 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists while Zoie Lamkin added 19 points, including five treys. Irvine Valley was paced by Haruka Mikuma's 18 points (4-for-5 from 3-point range).
#2 Mt. San Antonio 85, West Los Angeles 58: The Mounties are determined to get to the 3C2A State Championship Tournament as the host college and began its playoff run by getting a season-high 28 points from SoCal State Player of the Year Daisia Mitchell, who added 11 rebounds, in a 27-point win. Taliyah McFerson was 9-for-13 from the field for 20 points with nine boards. Aliyah Young also was 9-for-13 as part of her 22 points to lead the Wildcats. Mt. SAC won its 10th in a row.
#3 Moorpark 79, #14 Fullerton 39: The Raiders jumped out to a 25-5 first-quarter lead, then 50-20 by halftime as they went on to win their 18th consecutive game. Hannah Lising scored 13 points and Alyssa Saldana tallied 10 points and made four steals. The Hornets top scorer was held to eight points--Amya Iannone.
#4 Glendale 58, #13 San Diego Mesa 53: The Vaqueros led 31-14, but the Olympians sliced it to five by the end of the third quarter, 45-40. Malia Ulery then scored six of her game-high 20 points (and eight rebounds) early in the fourth quarter as Glendale advanced. Shadel Ffrench added 10 points, 17 boards and three blocks. Kendal Alloway netted 16 points and also made three blocks for Mesa.
#5 Cypress 80, #21 East Los Angeles 60: The Chargers bench came up large with 45 of the team's points, including 18 by Andrea Lopez (four treys) and 17 by Journie Hayden in defeating the Huskies. ELAC got 19 points each by Moriah Mosley and Sarah Ramos, who was 10-for-10 from the line and grabbed 10 rebounds.
#6 Palomar 79, #11 Santa Barbara City 61: The Comets won their 15th straight as Nevaeh Mageo led five players in double digits in scoring with 17 points, including five 3-pointers. Kailani Flournoy 10 points, 14 boards and three steals. For the Vaqueros, Isis Poteet totaled 19 points with nine rebounds.
#8 Cerro Coso 72, #24 LA Valley 61: The Coyotes ended the Cinderalla #24 seed Monarchs playoff run by breaking open a 12-12 game after one quarter in outscoring LAVC, 46-26, in the middle quarters. Shaniyah McCarthy scored 22 points and pulled down 11 rebounds and Lia Sims added 16 points off the bench. LA Valley's Gizella Moreno was 8-for-8 from the line and scored a game-high 24 points.
