Eight undefeated teams left as State Women's Basketball Top 25 heats up

Orange Coast College has regained the pre-season buzz and tops this week's CCCWBCA State Top 25 Coaches Poll with 12 of 17 first-place votes.
Butte trailed with 393 total points (OCC amassed 416) to stay at #2, followed by previous leader Mt. San Antonio at #3, Palomar remaining #4 and San Joaquin Delta staying at #5.
The undefeated include OCC, Palomar, Delta, #10 Irvine Valley, #11 Chabot, and #14 Ventura.
Two undefeated teams are not on the Top 25 in Cosumnes River, 5-0 with two 100-plus point performances in wins over Las Positas and Cabrillo. Golden West is 4-0 with wins over Santa Monica and Chaffey last week.
1. Orange Coast, Orange Empire, 5-0: The Pirates simply have started off '23-24 where they left off last season when they won 3C2A championship. OCC won the Moorpark Tournament, defeating East Los Angeles in the title game, 68-60. They then knocked off Mt. SAC, 67-64, before Bridgette McIntyre burned the net for 35 points in a rout over LA Valley. LW: #3.
2. Butte, Golden Valley, 6-1: The Roadrunners are on fire, recording a 20-point win over Sierra, a 48-point victory over American River, and a 20-point triumph over Folsom Lake. Morgan Trigueiro rained 11 treys for her 33 points v. FLC. LW: #2
3. Mt. San Antonio, South Coast North, 3-1: The Mounties had a great performance from Daisia Mitchell, 21 points, 15 rebounds, four steals and three blocks in the loss to Orange Coast. LW: #4
4. Palomar, Pacific Coast Athletic, 5-0: The Comets swept their two games at both the Mt. San Jacinto and Comet Crossovers. The toughest game was a 62-60 win over ELAC as Mackenzie Kozina hit a layup with 16 seconds left for the winning basket. LW: #2
5. San Joaquin Delta, Big 8, 6-0: The Mustangs finished 3-0 at the San Jose-Skyline Tournament, picking up wins over Siskiyous, Fullerton and Skyline. Kiara Manipol collected 25 points, 18 rebounds, and 15 assists in the tourney. LW: #5.
6. Santa Rosa JC, Big 8, 5-1: The Bear Cubs have won five straight, including wins over Fresno and Feather River. Lucca Lowenberg tallied 42 points in the last three victories. LW: #6
7. Moorpark, Western State North, 5-2: The Raiders beat Canyons, lost to ELAC, then scored wins over Sequoias and their second in a span of two weeks over Long Beach. Rome Falcocchia came off the bench to total 19 points and 10 rebounds in the 55-44 win over LBCC. LW: #7
8. CC San Francisco, Coast North, 2-1: The Rams opened the season with a 27-point win over Foothill, lost to Fresno by 14, then beat Sierra, 78-57. Madison Thomas has 43 points and 37 rebounds with three double-doubles thus far. LW: #8
9. Folsom Lake, Big 8, 3-3: After beating Shasta by 25, the Falcons have lost two straight, a 2-point OT loss to San Mateo and then falling to Butte, 87-67. Jadyn Weaver scored 48 points in the last three contests. LW: #10
10. Irvine Valley, Orange Empire, 5-0: The Lasers leaped into the top 10 this week and are undefeated after winning the Riverside Earning Our Stripes tourney title, defeating Pasadena, 66-59, in the finals. IVC went on to wins over Rio Hondo and Citrus. Makena Tomlinson is averaging 12.6 points and 10 rebounds and was MVP of the RCC tourney. LW: #13
11. Chabot, Coast North, 6-0: The Gladiators are making serious waves with a 6-game win streak to begin the season. Kelly Tumlin is averaging 19.2 points a game. LW: 20
12. East Los Angeles, South Coast North, 4-3: The Huskies dropped out of the top 10 after starting the year at 4-0 and now have dropped three straight. However, one was an 8-point loss to OCC and another was a 2-point defeat v. Palomar. Makaia Smith has been steady, averaging 12 points a game in the last four contests. LW: #9
13. Fresno CC, Central Valley, 4-2: The Rams followed a 10-point loss to SRJC with a big win over CCSF, 80-66. Briajanae Wade is averaging 14.7 points a game to pace FCC. LW: #14.
14. Ventura, Western State North, 6-0: The Pirates celebrated the 900th career win for legendary coach Ned Mircetic and are red-hot to open the season. VC won three games at the West LA WildWest tourney, then did the same at its host Kiwanis Classic. Alexa Coubal is averaging 14 points and 10.7 boards per game. LW: #16
T15. Laney, Bay Valley, 2-1: The Eagles have not played since Nov. 5. This week, they return to action with games v. Butte and Modesto. LW: #12
T15. Mt. San Jacinto, Inland Empire Athletic, 3-1: In the team's start to the season, the Eagles scored a huge 50-39 victory over ELAC. Jana Roman has been a big rebounder, avering 12.5 boards and 6 points. LW: #15
17. Sierra, Big 8, 2-2: The Wolverines were rated as high as seventh in a poll two weeks ago, but have fallen a bit with losses to top 10 teams in Butte and San Francisco. Alyssa Premo scored 20 points in an 81-58 win over Redwoods. LW: #11
18. Glendale, Western State South, 4-1: The Vaqueros had their 4-game win streak to open the season stopped by Victor Valley, 67-60. Osanna Tirityan has been steady, averaging 9.8 points and 7.2 rebounds. LW: #18
19. Sequoias, Central Valley, 4-3: The Giants hung tough in a 59-49 loss v. Orange Coast. They beat Feather River, 81-59, behind 25 points from Geizzle Jones. LW: #19
20. Victor Valley, Inland Empire Athletic, 5-1: The Rams lost a close 50-49 game v. Ventura, then picked up its big victory over Glendale. Ebony Black-Smith is averaging 17.5 points and 7.2 rebounds. LW: #25
21. San Mateo, Coast North, 6-1: The Bulldogs went 3-0 at their host tourney and have run off five consecutive wins. Joslyn Moore is averaging 15.7 points and 8.9 rebounds. LW: #23
22. San Jose City, Coast South, 5-1: The Jaguars scored three straight wins, including 72-57 over Fullerton as Danna Martinez powered for 19 points and 16 rebounds. LW: #24
23. Long Beach City, South Coast South, 2-4: Two of the Vikings losses are v. #7 Moorpark, one each v. #3 Mt. SAC and #4 Palomar. Brillana Boyd scored 23 points in a 79-69 win over #T15 Mt. San Jacinto. LW: #17
24. Imperial Valley, Pacific Coast Athletic, 6-1: The Desert Warriors picked up wins over Saddleback and Reedley last week. Carolina Sauceda has been consistent at 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 5.9 assists averages. LW: #21.
25. Pasadena City, South Coast North, 4-2: The Lancers climb on to the top 25 as they were 2-1 each at back-to-back tournaments, including a runner-up finish to #10 Irvine Valley at the RCC Tourney. Antuanae Garrett is averaging 13.5 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists. LW: Not Ranked.
