Medina Strikes out 21 In East LA 10-Inning Win at Pasadena

Alashanee Medina, a transfer sophomore from College of Southern Nevada, struck out an East Los Angeles softball school record 21 batters Tuesday as her Huskies outlasted host Pasadena City College, 1-0, in 10 innings. The game was played at off-campus Robinson Park.
The South Coast Conference game was a pitching duel between Medina and Lancers lefty sophomore Casey Ramirez. Medina twirled a 3-hitter, but none of the hits left the infield, including two bunts. Ramirez allowed just five hits and gave up an unearned run in the 10th to be the hard-luck losing pitcher.
Medina, who is a product of Mark Keppel High, mixed explosive fastballs with a sharp change-up that caused 11 Lancers to strike out looking. She struck out 10 swinging and had 15 Ks overall by the end of the seventh inning. She struck out the side in the first and second innings, and notched two strikeouts in every other inning but the fifth when she recorded only one K. The 21 Ks are the most ever recorded against a PCC team.
ELAC improved to 8-4 overall, 4-2 in the SCC. Pasadena is 5-12 and winless in conference play at 0-6.
