Sophomore Kifi Cabrera (Poly HS) posted five saves in goal while
an own-goal by Orange Coast College provided all the scoring in a
1-0 Long Beach City College win in Costa Mesa on Tuesday night.
It was the Vikings' first win after opening the 2014 season with a
1-1 draw at Cuyamaca College and scoreless tie at San Diego City
College.
Orange Coast (1-1-1) outshot Long Beach by a 14-11 margin,
including 11 in the second half. The own-goal by a Pirates'
defender in the 49th minute proved to be the game-winner for
LBCC.
Long Beach (1-0-2) returns to action on Friday (Sep 12) when it
hosts Rio Hondo College in a 4 p.m. non-conference game.
