Palomar continues to roll while picking up 24th win with 8-3 nonconference victory over Pasadena City

SAN MARCOS - Palomar College and Pasadena City College met up for a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon and the Comets won 8-3 to advance to 24-5 on the season.
For the 12th time this season, the Comets had to play from behind. Down 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Comets were in need of an adjustment at the plate, after going down in order in each inning. Carter Hain had the first hit of the day for the Comets with a lead-off single. Noah Lazuka followed suit to get two baserunners. Kyle Harvey continued the rally and singled for an RBI to tie the game. Tanner Lappin then flew out, but got Lazuka over to third. Harvey then stole second. Ian Halverson then had an RBI sac fly to score Lazuka and give the Comets the lead.
Palomar tacked on another run in the bottom of the sixth and Pasadena got one run back in the seventh, but the Comets took it right back. The Lancers scored their final run in the top of the eighth. With a 4-3 lead, Palomar wasn't going to settle for one-run baseball.
With two outs, Qunicy Scott started the rally with a single. Hain then had an RBI double to score Scott. Luke Matthews then pinch-ran for Hain. He then advanced on a wild pitch. Lazuka followed up with a walk. Harvey then doubled to bring home Matthews and Lazuka. After a pitching change for the Lancers, Harvey advanced to third on a wild pitch and then Lappin walked. Halverson recorded his second RBI with a single to score Harvey.
Kyle Carr was the winning pitcher, picking up his state-leading ninth win of the season. He struck out nine batters in six innings pitched and allowed one run on five hits. Mike Villani entered the game in the eighth needing to get two outs. The Comets needed five total outs from him. He completely shut down the Lancers in the final outs of the game. He threw 1.2 innings of hitless baseball and recorded four strikeouts.
The Comets will return to PCAC action next week with a three-game series against Grossmont College. All three games (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday) will be played down at Grossmont with first pitches coming at 2 p.m.
