SAN MATEO – After repelling three match points, College of San Mateo finally sent Hartnell College home with its first Coast North Conference women's volleyball loss on a spike by Krystal Hin for an extended 5-set victory Friday night.
The 18-16 final set win capped a marathon 13-25, 25-23, 25-22, 17-25, 18-16 triumph for the state No. 23 ranked Lady Bulldogs (11-6, 2-1 Coast North) over No. 22 Hartnell (11-10, 1-1). CSM is in second place alone behind former state champion Cabrillo (10-4, 3-0).
Hartnell led, 14-12, to gain the first two match point plays before CSM scored twice to tie it. The Panthers tallied again for another win opportunity at 15-14 that San Mateo countered with two points to move into the match point position at 16-15. Hartnell tied it before the Bulldogs rattled off the final two points, the decider coming off a serve by Michelle Cheuk. Hin, a freshman out of Terra Nova High, got her ninth kill of the match from the corner of the net to end it. She also had 18 digs.
