When her first 3-point shot of the game went in Saturday vs. visiting College of the Desert, Rio Hondo's Klarissa Ayala knew good things were about to happen.
"I knew I had a feel for it," the Santa Fe High graduate said.
Indeed she did. Ayala sank four 3-point shots before halftime and finished the game with a school-record 10 in an 87-59 Foothill Conference victory. The sophomore finished with 32 points, and her 10-for-16 effort from 3-point range broke the previous school mark of nine set by Elen Agabao against Bakersfield in 2007.
"She was feeling it that day," Rio Hondo coach Steve Johnson remembered. "Nothing was forced. Everything was in the flow of the offense."
The Roadrunners are 2-1 in the Foothill conference and 9-11 overall. On Saturday, they'll host Victor Valley at 1 p.m. The men's team (7-12, 2-1) will follow at 3 p.m. against Victor Valley as well.
