Long Beach returns to 3CFCA Top-20
The Vikings return at No. 15.
LOS ANGELES — Long Beach returns to the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) Top-20 at No. 15 after a big 6-4 win over previous No. 15 Pasadena City. The Vikings rallied in the top of the seventh, getting RBIs from four players to take a 6-3 lead and held for the win. Long Beach had been absent from the rankings since the February 1 poll, but after starting the season 2-4, the Vikings have gone 14-3, falling only to No. 5 Mt. SAC, No. 3 Cypress, and an extra-innings loss to Pasadena City.
The order slightly changed in the Top-5 despite three teams dropping games. Mt. SAC remains at No. 5 after a 3-1 week that featured wins over RV Santiago Canyon and RV El Camino, with its lone loss a 2-1 nail-biter to No. 1 Palomar. Cypress moved up one spot to No. 3, and Monterey Penninsula dropped to No. 4 after both squads recorded a loss. Cypress swept No. 14 Canyons in a doubleheader and took down Long Beach. The Chargers' lone loss was a 4-1 defeat on the road to No. 8 Fullerton.
Monterey Peninsula finished the week 3-1 but lost in the biggest upset of the week 10-9 in eight innings to Cuesta, led by 3CFCA Player of the Week Emily Valdez.
