Torrance, Calif. – The fifth-ranked El Camino College Compton Center men's basketball team set a new state season high for points scored in a game with its 133-124 win over the El Camino College Warriors on Friday evening.
The win improves the Tartars' record to 24-4 overall, 7-1 in South Coast South Division play, and it guarantees at least a share of the conference title. The Warriors drop to 11-14, 2-6.
The Tartars scored 108 of their points in the paint to the Warriors' 52, while connecting on 75.9 percent (60-of-79) of their attempts. Seventy of the points came on fast break opportunities.
In the first half alone, the Tartars earned a 79-59 lead going into halftime, the most points they've scored in a half, before building their largest lead in the game at the 13:39 mark in the second half, up by 28.
Sophomore Kyvonte Davis tallied his third-straight career-high setting game with a team-high 25 points, adding seven rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Sophomore Alonzo Taylor counted 24 points with four assists and four steals, while sophomore Anthony Fitzpatrick earned another double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds, adding six assists and three steals.
Sophomore DaJion Henderson added a double-double night with 18 points and 11 rebounds with eight assists, while sophomores Calvin House and Jeremiah Curtis rounded out the scorers in double figures with 16 and 12 points, respectively. Sophomore Jayvon Brown tallied 10 assists.
The Warriors' Jamal Heckard led all scorers with 33 points.
The Tartars stay on the road, heading to LA Southwest on Wednesday, Feb. 15 for a 5 p.m. game.
