Fresno City pushes conference title streak to state record-tying 14
by The Fresno Bee
Make it 14 straight outright Central Valley Conference men's basketball titles for Fresno City College — and 17 consecutive wins this season.
Ryan Swain and Anthony Ballestero each scored 15 points apiece as the state top-ranked Rams defeated visiting Reedley 89-71 on Saturday night.
The 14 consecutive conference titles tie the Rams with Skyline and L.A. City College for the most in state JC history.
"I thought we played well in spurts," Rams coach Ed Madec said. "We did a lot of good things."
One of those good things was Fresno City's 3-point shooting.
The Rams (26-3, 10-0) made 11 from beyond-the-arc, with Ballestero and Evan Stillahn finishing with three each.
Fresno City started the game 3 for 3 from 3-point range while building an 11-3 lead. With 5:23 remaining in the first half, Swain drilled a 3-pointer to make it 34-23.
Allston Moore led the Tigers (7-18, 3-8) with 16 points.
• Brantley Bynum scored a game-high 23 points as Sequoias beat West Hills 66-50. Chad Clark added 15 points for the Giants, who improved to 14-12 and 7-3. Darren Buckles finished with 15 points for the Falcons (11-16, 5-5).
