Coast Golden Conference baseball champion College of San Mateo has been seeded No. 5 among the 18 teams in the Northern California playoffs, which get underway this week. The Bulldogs (25-11) will host No. 12 Merced (23-13), the Central Valley Conference runner-up, in a best two of three series beginning Friday (May 1) at 2 p.m. and concluding on Saturday. Sam Hellinger concluded an unbeaten regular season on the mound with a 7-0 record as CSM finished with a 7-3 victory at De Anza College in Cupertino on Thursday.

Coast Golden Conference baseball champion College of San Mateo has been seeded No. 5 among the 18 teams in the Northern California playoffs, which get underway this week. The Bulldogs (25-11) will host No. 12 Merced (23-13), the Central Valley Conference runner-up, in a best two of three series beginning Friday (May 1) at 2 p.m. and concluding on Saturday.
The Bulldogs finished Golden Gate play with a 4-game conference winning streak and a 17-5 record, three full games ahead of runner-up Mission – and with by far the best conference record among all 13 Coast teams in both divisions.
HELLINGER 7-0 ON THE MOUND: Sam Hellinger concluded an unbeaten regular season on the mound with a 7-0 record as CSM finished with a 7-3 victory at De Anza College in Cupertino on Thursday.
The Bulldogs went ahead with two runs in the third inning after loading the bases. Miles Mastrobuoni reached on a fielder's choice to score Ryan Krainz. Mastrobuoni then stole second and a throwing error by De Anza's catcher allowed Austin Lonestar to score from third.
CSM took control with three runs in the sixth inning. Dylan Isquirdo singled home Daniel Defazio and Mastrobuoni doubled home Isquirdo and Lonestar.
Isquirdo and Lonestar each had three hits in the game. Isquirdo had two RBIs and scored twice. Devon Mahoney, playing first base, had two hits and an RBI. As a pitcher, he has CSM's top ERA (1.57) and a 4-1 record.
--Isquirdo finished regular season play with a .330 batting average, Mastrobuoni .329, and Lonestar .326. Hellinger is 7-0 with a 2.33 ERA.
San Mateo won 11 of its last 14 games over the past month.
