Fresno City, Mt. SAC and Cerritos Favorites in Wrestling State Championships
The CCCAA State Wrestling Championships are set to begin this Friday, December 9th at West Hills Lemoore College.
LEMOORE, Calif. - The 2022 California Community College Athletic Association Men's Wrestling State Tournament is set to take place from Friday, December 9th through Saturday, December 10th at West Hills Lemoore College. Start times are set for 10:00 a.m. on both days.
After dominating the NorCal Regional Championships, the Fresno City Rams will be one of the favorites to bring home the state title yet again. The Rams posted 311 team points and had four wrestlers win their weight brackets in the regional championships last Saturday. The next closest teams in the tournament were Modesto College, who scored 195 points followed by Sacramento City College at 190.
Fresno City will be going for their fifth title since 2016 and 18th in school history.
But the Ram's path won't be as easy as the Mt. San Antonio Mounties and the Cerritos Falcons both have the talent to challenge them.
Mt. SAC collected their second consecutive SoCal regional championship as they slightly edged out Cerritos with 295 team points. The reigning state champions look strong headed into this weekend's tournament and hope for a repeat to capture their second title in school history.
The Falcons placed second at the SoCal Regional Championships, recording 268 points with three wrestlers placing first in their brackets. They'll have a chance to earn their first championship since 2014 and 5th overall.
