Three San Joaquin Delta legends inducted into their corresponding Hall of Fames
Ernie Marcopulos
If you play sports at Delta College it is hard to not know the name of the 2020 California Community College Athletic Association Hall of Famer Ernie Marcopulos as one of the gymnasiums is named after this legendary head coach and athletic director. Coaching the men's basketball program from 1962 to 1979, Marcopulos led the Mustangs to 13 Valley Conference championships. His most impressive two-year run during his time was from 1965 to 1967 when the Mustangs went back-to-back seasons undefeated in league play while averaging over 100 points a game for the season. After his coaching days ended he became the school's athletic director which was a position he served from 1972 until he retired in 1996. Before coming to Delta College, then known as Stockton College, he graduated from the College of the Pacific, now known as the University of the Pacific, and coached at Franklin. He was also inducted into the California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1976 and the Stockton Hall of Fame in 1992.
Jack Jordan
Not only did he serve as the president of the California Community College Football Coaches Association but he is one of their newest hall of fame honorees. Before taking over on the sidelines leading the Mustangs, Jack Jordan earned CIF Coach of the Year honors while coaching at Riverside High School, and became an assistant coach for eight years at the Univerity of the Pacific and Arizona. Jordan became the head coach for the Mustangs football team in 1980; he was in charge of the team until 1990 and even after his coaching career ended he was still at Delta College teaching golf classes. Many of his went on and became coaches, including current football head coach Gary Barlow. Before starting his coaching career, Jordan was a three-sport standout and was named the 1956 Rhode Island State Athlete of the Year in high school before eventually playing football at BYU and Cal Poly SLO. He was also inducted into the Stockton Hall of Fame in 2014 and is in the Providence Gridiron Hall of Fame as well.
Art Yee
While no athlete ever wants to get injured and have to go see the trainers there was no worry that those athletes weren't going to be taken care of. Art Yee is being inducted into the California Community College Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame after a 36-year career at Delta College. Art served as the Delta's only trainer for the first 30 years of his career in 1977 and went until 2013. It is estimated that Art has helped out well over 20,000 athletes. Many people have also been mentored and helped by Art, and many mentees have gone on to have training careers in a variety of roles from youth sports to the professional level. While Art retired in 2013 many current students are still being helped by him as he continues assisting in other game-day roles, such as running the scoreboard during basketball games. Art received his undergraduate degree from San Jose State University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology.
