Defending champ Mt. San Antonio leads 3C2A race in NATYCAA Cup with Sierra in second and American River in third

SACRAMENTO - Two 3C2A state championships and three other top-three finishes fueled 10-time defending champion Mt. San Antonio College with 104.5 points after the fall season and provided the Mounties with the mid-year lead in the 3C2A race for the 2024-25 NATYCAA Cup. Sierra (82.0), American River (81.0), Cerritos (80.5), Orange Coast (80.0) and Fresno City (78.0) round out the top six that is evenly split between South and North region programs.
The NATYCAA Cup is an all-sports competition that awards schools with points depending on their finishes in postseason competition. State championships are worth 20 points, runner-ups receive 18, third place earns 17, etc. Points are shared where there are ties for places. Scoring criteria is available here.

Mt. San Antonio captured 3C2A titles in women's golf and men's wrestling while finishing second in men's cross country and football. Women's cross country was third for 18 points while women's volleyball tied for ninth and received 8.5. Sierra College tied for fifth in women's volleyball, women's water polo and men's water polo to highlight their 81 points total while American River tied for third in volleyball and was a strong fourth in women's cross country on its way to 80.5 points.
The top 10 teams each scored at least 66.5 points. A total of 69 teams tallied points.
In addition to leading the 3C2A race, Mt. SAC is also first among all community colleges in the country in a race for the Learfield Directors' Cup, as well as the Ron Case Cup which is contested between the 3C2A and the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC). The Ron Case Cup, previously called the Daktronics Cup but still presented by Daktronics, was named earlier this year in honor of Ron Case, the former NATYCAA president and director of athletics at Rowan College at Gloucester who stewarded the Cup program from its inception in 2004 through last June.
The top six teams in the 3C2A race are also the top six in the Learfield Cup competition. Iowa Western (75.5), College of Du Page (75), Heartland Community College (75) and Cowley College (73.5) round out the top 10.
