Mt. SAC and Palomar Collect Titles at Women’s Wrestling Dual State Championship
FRESNO, Calif. - 16 teams competed in two brackets at the 2026 3C2A Women's Wrestling Dual Championships on Saturday, March 7th at Fresno City College.
No. 3 Mt. San Antonio College fought through multiple ranked opponents to finish as the top team in the gold bracket.
The difference maker for Mt. SAC was a few upset wins in the championship round against the No. 1 ranked Cerritos Falcons.
In the 110lb bout, Mt. SAC's No. 3 ranked Caylee Reyes outlasted No. 1 Megan Sognefest for a 16-13 win to give her team three much needed points.
In addition, the Mounties saw unranked Aubrey Hernandez take down No. 4 ranked Casey Otero in the 160lb weight class by a score of 8-3 for another three points.
The Mounties also benefitted from a savvy strategic decision as they moved Gen Deleon up from the 180lb class to face No. 5 Nova Gallegos in the 207lb bout. Deleon came up big and finished the bout with a fall to help lead her team to a 29-20 win and the title.
In the silver bracket, unranked Palomar went undefeated with two ranked wins to bring home the championship.
The Comets started the day with a statement win against No. 6 Bakersfield, defeating the Renegades by a score of 41-12. They then outlasted No. 4 Sierra by a score of 31-22 before securing the title with a 34-20 win over Lemoore College.
Palomar saw several wrestlers shine as Marie Gil, Xiomara Galleho and Kyli Stanley went unbeaten in their weight classes but it was Alexandria Perez who gave them the biggest lift as she upset Lemoore's No. 3 ranked Esperanza Cadena Ortiz in the 180lb bout.
The 2026 season will continue as these teams prepare for the 3C2A Women's Wrestling State Championships on Saturday, May 2nd. That tournament will also be hosted by Fresno City College.
