Mt. SAC back in top-3 after beating No. 1 Palomar
Two top-5 teams dropped games last week.
LOS ANGELES — With just a few weeks remaining in the regular season, squads are starting to round into playoff form. Perennial postseason contender Mt. San Antonio College showed it's ready after handing Palomar its first loss this season. The Mounties move up to No. 3 in the latest California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association (3CFCA) rankings after beating the Comets 3-2.
Mt. SAC posted a 7-0 week with two wins over No. 20 Cerritos and another over RV Antelope Valley. Despite the loss, Palomar hangs on to the top spot in the state. Palomar defeated Mt. SAC earlier in the season 2-1. Cypress suffered a surprising 10-4 loss to Orange Coast, its first loss to the Pirates since 1996, and moves down a few spots to No. 5.
Butte continues to creep closer to the top-5 coming in at No. 6 after a pair of wins. The Roadrunners' doubleheader sweep over No. 4 West Valley earlier in the year looks more impressive with the Vikings' late-season rise. The Vikings posted two-more ranked wins, defeating No. 19 Fresno City twice.
American River moves up three spots to No. 16 after defeating No. 10 Monterey Peninsula twice. Long Beach and Bakersfield continue to steadily rise up the rankings at No. 12 and No. 13, respectively. No. 18 San Joaquin Delta advances two spots after beating No. 7 San Mateo 10-5. Cerritos narrowly edges out RV El Camino for the final spot in the rankings after defeating No. 9 Fullerton.
