Ventura College women's tennis captures first win of the season

VENTURA - The Ventura College women's tennis team posted their first win of the young season Saturday, defeating Mt. San Antonio College 6-3 at the VC Tennis Center. Hanna Dever and Elizabeth Nguyen were both double winners for the Pirates (1-1, 0-1) winning at Nos. 1 and 3 singles, and teaming up to claim the No. 1 doubles match. Dee Emami was also a double winner, prevailing in her No. 5 singles match and pairing with Alyssa McClain to win in No. 3 doubles.

Ventura took the early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition. Devers and Nguyen won a close one, 9-8 in No. 1 doubles and Tanya Thompson and Iskra Volic claimed the No. 2 slot, 8-6. McClain and Emami won their No. 3 doubles match 8-4.

Ventura split the singles competition, but that was good enough for the 6-3 team victory. Dever easily dispatched of her opponent in No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-2, and Nguyen claimed the No. 3 singles contest, love and one.  Emami, meanwhile, also prevailed in her No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-1.

Ventura next hosts College of the Canyons on Tuesday Nov. 8 at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
