SARATOGA, Calif – Yuba staved off a West Valley comeback to earn a 4-3 win and advance to the winner's game against San Mateo tomorrow at noon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
For the second-straight day, West Valley surrendered a two-run lead in the later parts of the game.
Yuba started a fourth-inning rally after a Viking error to begin the inning. With Danni Farris – who earned the win in the circle for the second-straight night – on first, Aaliyah Tinoco and Sophia Chavez hit back-to-back singles to load the bases. Rylee Gillespie, one of last night's top performers, drove home two with a single to tie it up.
Two batters later, Alexis Vega gave Yuba the lead with a base hit of her own. Once on base, she stole in a first and third situation, helping bring Gillespie home to score the game-winning run.
In the seventh, West Valley threatened to take the lead. With runners on first and second, Makayla Villapando ripped a double to left, but a tough break for the Vikings as the ball bounced high off the turf and over the wall – scoring just one run.
Farris struck out Dre DeJesus, one of the state's top bats, looking to end the game – Farris's eighth strikeout of the game.
