CCCMVCA Announces Players of the Week; Recaps Top 10 Matchups
No. 4 Santa Monica and No. 3 Santa Barbara City College both picked up wins on Wednesday, defeating No. 6 Fullerton and No. 10 LA Pierce, respectively, to move into a tie for first place in the Northern Region. The tie was settled Friday night, when SBCC earned a 3–2 victory over Santa Monica at home in a tightly contested match. Santa Monica's Demian Anisimov led all players with 25 kills on the night.
Meanwhile, No. 5 Long Beach continued its strong run with sweeps over El Camino and No. 8 Moorpark, while Moorpark picked up a Wednesday win over Antelope Valley. No. 6 Fullerton closed out the week with a hard-fought five-set victory over LA Pierce.
South:
No. 1 Orange Coast and No. 2 Golden West entered Wednesday's matchup undefeated, but Orange Coast came away with a 3–1 win and now stands as the only undefeated team in the state. The rest of the region remains tightly contested.
Santiago Canyon went 2–0 on the week with wins over Irvine Valley and Palomar. San Diego Miramar split its matches, defeating Palomar before falling to Santiago Canyon, and now sits atop the Pacific Region standings at 5–3. Grossmont edged Mesa in a five-set battle to round out the week's results.
Mykolas Petraitis, OH, So., Santa Barbara City College
Petraitis led No. 3 Santa Barbara City College to a pair of key wins, including a sweep of LA Pierce and a five-set victory over No. 4 Santa Monica. Across the two matches, the sophomore outside hitter totaled 39 kills while hitting .310, adding 10 service aces, 12 digs, and six blocks.
Ezekiel Sablan, OH, Fr., Long Beach City College
Sablan paced No. 5 Long Beach to two straight-set victories over El Camino and No. 8 Moorpark. The freshman outside hitter recorded 29 kills on 47 attempts, hitting an impressive .532 on the week, while also posting a 2.58 passing rating. His efficiency and consistency were key in keeping Long Beach among the top teams in the state rankings.
South:
Seth Sainz, MB, Fr., Orange Coast College
Sainz played a major role in helping No. 1 Orange Coast remain undefeated with wins over No. 2 Golden West and San Diego Mesa. In the four-set win over Golden West, the freshman middle blocker finished with 10 kills on .667 hitting, added two aces, and contributed four block assists. His strong play at the net helped OCC maintain its position as the only unbeaten team in the state.
