LOS ANGELES - One thing that has characterized the LACC men's soccer team is their defensive mindset, which have kept the cubs in pretty much all of the games they have played. LACC's three defeats had been by only one goal, but on October 1st, the cubs had a rude awakening when Moorpark College defeated LACC four goals to zero at Be True Field.
LACC had the first clear chance to score when Felipe Alvarez's shot from close range struck the crossbar in the fifth minute. A defensive error allowed Moorpark forward Alec Silva, to enter the penalty area unchallenged to beat goalkeeper Luis Villegas in the tenth minute. Five minutes later Moorpark scored a second goal when Jared Fuller had an easy tap in from an uncleared ball from a cross.
The Cubs went on the offensive but forward Kristopher Rodriguez missed a clear chance two minutes from half time. One minute later a botched clearance in the back permitted Moorpark's Brandon Luquin to shoot and score a third goal for his team.
During the second half, goalkeeper Valentin Gomez substituted Luis Villegas and LACC made several changes to boost the offense. Moorpark defended well and repelled every attack by the cubs. Five minutes before the final whistle, Brandon Luquin struck a perfect volley from thirty yards, the ball hit the crossbar and went over the goal line for a spectacular fourth goal.
That ended the preseason for the LACC cubs as they enter conference play with a record of four wins, four losses and three draws. Their next game is against Long Beach Community College on October 5th at 4:30pm.
