SAN JOSE, Calif – Palomar scored early and held Modesto to zero from the second inning on to earn a 3-1 win and advance to another elimination game later today.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Modesto got on the board first in the top of the first. Katelyn Brideman ripped an RBI double off the wall in left field. Bridgeman had two of the Pirates' five hits and made smooth plays at second base.
Palomar answered back in the bottom half to tie it. Isabella De Fillipis hit a two-out single to score the Comets first run of the day.
An inning later, the bottom of the order in Alexis Huey doubled to lead off the inning. After a pair of outs, the SoCal Player of the Year, Breanna Lutz stepped up to the plate and laced a go-ahead homer over the wall in left center. An opposite-field line drive off the bat of the lefty proved to be the game-winning knock.
The duo of Nevaeh Haywood and Maddie Bedolla kept the Pirates off the board with help from a defense that committed no errors on the day. Haywood earned her 21st win and Bedolla picked up her first save.
