Deatherage, Naranjo Named 3CFCA Players of the Week
Deatherage and Naranjo led Sacramento City and Chaffey, respectively, to outstanding starts to the season.
SACRAMENTO — Sacramento City College's Eliza Deatherage and Chaffey College's Alexya Naranjo have been named the California Community College Fastpitch Coaches (3CFCA) Players of the Week.
Deatherage earns Player of the Week honors after leading the Panthers to a 3-0-1 start to the season and Naranjo picks up Pitcher of the Week accolades for guiding Chaffey to a perfect 4-0 start.
The shortstop from Northern California was unstoppable at the plate at the Glendale round-robin. The sophomore went 9-13 at the plate for a .692 batting average with eight RBIs and seven runs. Deatherage showcased her power, hitting an incredible four home runs and a double in the opening weekend of action.
Deatherage got off to a fast start in the opener hitting two bombs for three RBIs in a seven-inning 5-5 tie versus Ventura College. The momentum kept rolling in the next game when she left the yard two more times and accounted for four RBIs in an 8-0 win over Antelope Valley.
Naranjo was nearly perfect in the circle for the Chaffey Panthers. In 17 innings of work, the freshman allowed just one earned run and two total runs to finish with an incredible 0.41 ERA. She earned two complete game wins and picked up a pair of saves in her other two outings. She struck out nine and walked just two batters over the stretch.
She made her biggest impact in the final game of the weekend striking out seven batters to lead Chaffey to a 5-2 win over San Diego City.
