CSM TOPS DEANZA, 8-0, IN COAST SB OPENER AS DEAN WINS FOURTH
SAN MATEO -- Samantha Dean pitched a 1-hitter (and also smacked two hits) as 4-time champion College of San Mateo opened Coast North Conference softball play with an 8-0, five-inning, victory over visiting De Anza College Tuesday. State top-ranked CSM improved to 10-1 on the season. De Anza fell to 0-9.
Sisters Riley and Meagan Wells (out of Hillsdale High) each had "perfect" two-for-two days at the plate, also scoring a pair of runs apiece. Leadoff hitter Meagan Wells led off the game with a walk, stole second, and later scored on the game's only error. She subsequently had a double and a pair of RBIs -- batting in her sister in the second and third innings. Riley Wells, batting last in the order, had a triple in the third before her sister singled her home with the game's final run. The siblings also accounted for all three stolen bases in the game (two by Meagan).
Dean allowed just a game-opening bloop single, while walking none and striking out one in three innings of work to up her season record to 4-0. She also had an RBI and scored a run. Morgan Jones closed it with a flawless final two frames that included two strikeouts.
It was the 44th consecutive home victory for the Bulldogs, who are also undefeated in conference play since April of 2014.
