SAN MATEO – Kayleen Smith set the stage with her booming first inning home run to spark state No. 2 College of San Mateo over No. 3 Mt. San Antonio to begin a Bulldogs sweep of last year’s state finalists Sunday afternoon. Following a 2-0 victory over Mt. SAC, unbeaten CSM (11-0) took apart No. 1 Sierra, 11-3, in a mercy-rule five inning affair. Mt. SAC (6-1), the 2014 state runner-up, and defending state champion Sierra (5-1) suffered their first losses of the season. Sierra had a 6-game winning streak dating to 2014 and had lost only once – to Mt. SAC in a state semifinal – over the previous 24 contests. --So the Bulldogs can now claim the top spot among the state’s 80 community college softball teams..
