Hartnell's Isaac Gensel and Alexis Macias from Rio Hondo earn CCCSIA Athlete of the Month honors for October
RIVERSIDE - Women’s soccer player Alexis Macias of Rio Hondo College (RHC) and Hartnell College’s (HC) men’s cross country runner Isaac Gensel have been selected as the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) October Athletes of the Month.

Gensel experienced a strong showing in the final stretch of the regular season leading into the Coast Conference Championships where he earned place second with a time of 20:01.3. He didn’t stop there as he continued on to haul in the hardware at the CCCAA Northern California Championship. He snapped the tape with a 21:37.2 clip while leading his team to a Northern California Championship as well.
Throughout the month of October, he did not place any lower than second which featured silver medals at the Toro Park Invitational (20:31.0) and the Mt. SAC Invitational (21:24.1). He is one of the favorited runners to win the CCCAA State Championship.

Macias has been lights out on the pitch throughout the entire season, but especially in the month of October. She has netted 16 goals and seven assists leading to 31 total points. She has scored at least one goal in every game and two or more goals in five games. She currently ranks fifth in the state in goals scored (30) and third in total points (71).
Rio Hondo has outscored their opponents 30-3 in October play. Macias has led this offense and her team to the top seed in the CCCAA Women’s Soccer State Championship bracket.
