Week #7 Players and Pitchers of the Week Announced
The California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association is pleased to announce it's Week #7 State Player and Pitcher of the Week. Pasadena City College's Holly Riker-Sloan is the State Player of the Week, while Sacramento City College's Morgan Welch is the State Pitcher of the Week.
Pitcher of the Week – Morgan Welch – Sacramento City College
Sacramento City College freshman pitcher Morgan Welch is the CCCFCA Week #7 Pitcher of the Week. Welch earned the honors after her performance over three games during the week. Welch threw a six inning no-hitter against Modesto College in her second appearance of the week, coming up one walk shy of a perfect game. Welch fanned four batters in the contest, and didn't allow a run. She followed that up by finishing up the second game of the double-header by throwing an inning and a third, giving up just one hit and a walk and no runs allowed. On the week, Welch allowed just two total hits. Welch is a right-hander out of Marysville High School in Marsyville, CA.
Player of the Week – Holly Riker-Sloan – Pasadena City College
Pasadena City College freshman Holly Riker-Sloan is the CCCFCA Week #7 Player of the Week. Riker-Sloan earned the honors after her record breaking week. Over the course of three games, Riker-Sloan batted 5-for-8 with 3 home runs and eight RBIs, plus five runs scored and four walks. She reached base safely on nine of her 12 plate appearances. Riker-Sloan hit two home runs in a win over Long Beach City, and in doing so broke the PCC single-season record for homers in a season at eight, a mark that stood for 32 years. The freshman slugged 1.750 for the week. Riker-Sloan prepped at Gahr High School and hails from Cerritos, CA.
