Men's soccer teams continue to keep close to each in CCCSIA poll
Previous rankings: Sept. 2 l Sept. 16
SAN BERNARDINO - With most of the men’s soccer teams in the state having reached the halfway points of their seasons, you would expect that there would start to be some separation among the top teams as they prepare to start conference play.
But a quick look at the California Community College Sports Information Association bi-weekly poll, and things are as tight as ever.
Twenty points separate the top five teams in the latest poll of sports information professionals, with Mt. San Antonio taking over the top spot. The Mounties (7-0-3) received two of the 11 first-place votes, jumping up two spots from the previous poll with 196 points.
Right behind was defending state champion El Camino – also the previous No. 1 team in the poll. The Warriors (6-0-2) received seven first-place votes, but finished with 192 points in the poll.
The next three teams are within six points of each other. No. 3 Long Beach (8-1-0, 182 points) and No. 4 Evergreen Valley (7-0-1, 180 points) each received a first-place vote in this week’s voting. Oxnard (6-0-1) remained at No. 5 with 176 points.
City College of San Francisco was the biggest mover of the week, as they moved from not receiving votes in the last poll to No. 10. And four teams moved into the poll after having only received votes in the previous poll: Los Angeles City (No. 11), Cosumnes River (No. 12), Sequoias (tied No. 16), and Cerritos (No. 20).
