LOS ANGELES - The top ranked Cerritos College mens' soccer team visited Los Angeles City College on Friday, October 15th and won their fourth consecutive conference match two goals to zero.
The game was an intense match up between an esperienced program and an up and coming LACC, but a foul near the box created a set piece that Cerritos executed well. Defender Pablo Caparelli used his height to lift himself higher than everyone and headed the the ball past goalkeeper Jair Villegas. The Cubs created danger in the way of counter-attacks but were held at bay by a solid defense and goalkeeper Alex Ledesma. Soon after on a free kick by LACC, a pass by defender Michael Ramirez found teammate Giovanni Marquez unmarkedin the box to equal the game but his header went off target.
In the second half, LACC came out strong and looked for the tying goal and almost found it but a spectacular save by Ledesma denied them the equalizer. The game would continue hard fought for the rest of the match but Cerritos' Arnold Castillo made it 2-0 and celebrated with his euphoric Falcons bench on what seemed to be the dagger. Cerritos would go on to win the match but the cubs would finish the game strong almost scoring in the last minutes.
Cerritos is now sitting comfortably with four wins and zero losses in conference, while the 1 and 3 Cubs have been left with very little margin for error if they want to continue playing in November. LACC will host LA Harbor College on Tuesday, October 19th.
