College of the Canyons takes fourth CCCAA Men's Golf State Championship in past seven years

NAPA - College of the Canyons won the CCCAA Men's Golf Championship hosted by Napa Valley College at Silverado Resort and Spa in Napa. The Cougars won the team title by 18 strokes over Santa Barbara City College. The championship marked the state record ninth in the program's history and fourth in the past seven - each coming on odd-numbered years since 2013.
There was a five-way tie for the lead after the first round of individual play. Myoung Kim of Orange Coast College, Jules Lavigne of College of the Canyons, Hanseop Lee of Mt. San Antonio College, David Marris of Cypress College and Tom O'Rourke of Reedley College shared the lead after the morning round of play after firing 72 (E) apiece.
Jonathan Tanihana of American River and Nobuhiko Wakaari of College of the Canyons were tied for second after the early round. College of the Canyons held the team lead with a 371. Reedley College and Santa Barbara City College were second place 10 strokes off the team lead. The average score for the first round was 76.4.
In the second round, Nobuhiko Wakari fired a tournament low score of 69 (-3) to earn medalist honors, the third state champion for Canyons in its program history, all of them coming since 2014. In the team competition, the Cougars fired a round low 363. The course was tougher in the afternoon for the competitors as the average score for the participants was 77.8.
