Orange Empire Conference men's golf title still up for grabs
WALNUT - Orange Coast edged Cypress by nine strokes to win the final Orange Empire Conference match of the regular season on Monday at the Arroyo Trabuco Golf Club in Mission Viejo, creating a two-way tie for the conference lead heading into the one-day, 36-hole conference championship tournament on April 29 at the Royal Vista golf course in Walnut.
Orange Coast shot a team score of 374 to win the event while Cypress posted a team score of 383. Host Saddleback (393) placed third while Irvine Valley (395), Mt. San Antonio (398), and Riverside (399) were all just a chip and a putt behind.
Orange Coast's Bryce Sheridan (pictured) earned medalist honors on the day with an even-par 72. Teammate Myoung Kim added a 73 while Connor O'Hern and Mike Stephens posted 76's. Cypress was paced by David Marris at 73 while Dalton Davenport carded a 76. Saddleback's rise to No. 3 this week came on the swing of Chase Bosanko and Cole Griffo with 76's while Christian Plasso added a 77. Dustin Vasquez helped Irvine Valley finish fourth with his 74 while Mt. San Antonio's Felix Tsui and Riverside's Ryan DeHart each led their teams with 76's.
Cypress and Orange Coast enter the conference championship tied with 32 wins this season and Mt. San Antonio (29 wins) is three wins behind the leaders. All six teams will play in the conference championship with the top three teams advancing to the CCCAA South Regional Championship on May 6 at the Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills along with two individuals.
Cypress' Marris (72.1 scoring average) leads the pack for top individual honors by one stroke over Orange Coast's O'Hern (72.3 average) while OCC teammate Sheridan and the Saddleback duo of Bosanko and Griffo are currently tied for third with a 73.9 average.
