Tigers Tame Tricky Tijeras Creek Course
The Riverside Tigers won the latest Orange Empire Conference men's golf match which was held on the tricky Tijeras Creek Golf Club course on March 9 with a five-man team score of 371.
Tiger teammates Chad Hambright (pictured) and Eric Cross each carded 1-under-par 71's with Cody Medlin posting a 75 to lead Riverside to a seven stroke victory over Santiago Canyon (378) while Cypress took third place at 395. Saddleback (408), Orange Coast (408), and Irvine Valley (410) rounded out the field. Irvine Valley's Nate Noblitt carded a 1-over 73 but was the only Laser to break 80.
Saddleback and Orange Coast tied for fourth and had to use the sixth man to break the tie. Saddleback's Tommy King edged OCC's Connor Gilligan by four strokes to give the Gauchos the edge.
Riverside improved to 27-3 in the conference standings while Santiago Canyon slipped to 25-5 and Orange Coast fell to 18-12 followed by Cypress, Saddleback, and Irvine Valley.
The teams have a week off before meeting on March 18 at the Santa Ana Country Club for a conference match hosted by Orange Coast College.
