Two of the USA’s top community college football teams are set to kickoff a grand day of college football on the Peninsula Saturday afternoon (Nov. 18). Back-to-back Bay 6 League champion College of San Mateo (9-1), ranked No. 3 in California and No. 4 in the nation, will host No. 8 state College of the Siskiyous (8-2) in a California Community College Athletic Association state quarterfinal game at 12 noon – in the nation’s largest CC grid playoff. Two of the USA's top community college football teams are set to kickoff a grand day of college football on the Peninsula Saturday afternoon (Nov. 18).

Back-to-back Bay 6 League champion College of San Mateo (9-1), ranked No. 3 in California and No. 4 in the nation, will host No. 8 state College of the Siskiyous (8-2) in a California Community College Athletic Association state quarterfinal game at 12 noon – in the nation's largest CC grid playoff.

The "other" televised big game on the Peninsula Saturday features Cal at Stanford at 5 p.m.

CSM was No. 4 and Siskiyous, based in Weed, was No. 21 in last week's jcfootball.com top 25 poll of the nation's 133 two-year college programs, the majority (68) of which are in California.

Both opponents have lost to top seed and 2016 state runner-up (currently second-ranked) American River College (9-1) – which is the likely next opponent for Saturday's survivor.

CSM's only setback was by a single point, 21-20, to the Beavers in September. Siskiyous finished second in the NorCal Conference, losing only its league opener to ARC, 33-7 -- after an earlier 36-14 non-league setback to Modesto JC (a team CSM beat). COS defeated Bay 6 runner-up City College of San Francisco, 20-14, in overtime. San Mateo took care of "host" CCSF, 42-31, en route to the Bay 6 crown. San Francisco had given ARC its only loss.

QB MILES KENDRICK & WR RAJAE JOHNSON BEST IN NORCAL:

--CSM quarterback Miles Kendrick is the top-rated passer in Northern California with a 176.0 passing efficiency rating. The freshman All-Bay 6 selection has completed 81 of 139 passes (58.3 per cent) for 1,486 yards (10.7 yards per attempt) and 16 TDs. His 10.7 yards per attempt ranks No. 2 in the state (just .1 off the leader). Kendrick is also the number five ranked rusher in the Bay 6 with 378 net yards and five TDs. His total offense, in just nine games, is 1,864 yards and 21 TDs. Shawn Akina, who was CSM's starter at the beginning of the season, has the No. 2 passer efficiency rating at 173.5 – nearly 20 points ahead of the rest of the field.

San Mateo passers lead the state in yards per pass attempt (11.0) and per completion (18.1)

--San Mateo receivers Rajae Johnson and Jared Latu dominated Bay 6 pass receiving stats. Johnson ranks No. 1 in Northern California with 993 receiving yards (on 40 receptions) and 11 touchdowns.  His 24.8 yards per catch is No. 2 in the state. Latu, a sophomore out of San Mateo High School, has 41 catches for 690 yards (No. 25 in the state) and eight scores. No other Bay 6 player has more than 500 yards or six TDs receiving.

--Hillsdale High grad Cameron Taylor finished second in Bay 6 rushing with 696 yards and 14 TDs in just eight games (the best per game rushing TD average in the state). His 14 TDs rank No. 4 in CSM scoring history. San Mateo rushers lead Northern California (second in the state) with 33 TDs scored.

All four players were first team All-Bay 6 selections.

WATTS WINS STATE PUNTING TITLE: Justin Watts won the state punting "title" with a 44.3-yard average, including a long of 74 yards. His 72 kick-scoring points was just one-point shy of the Northern California lead.

COLT DOUGHTY TOP BAY 6 DEFENDER: CSM linebacker Colt Doughty finished with a league-leading 73 tackles, including ten tackles for loss and a pass interception, to earn Bay 6 defensive player of the year honors.

Dorrzel Hicks, another all-conference linebacker, ranked fourth in the Bay 6 with 64 tackles. The CSM rush defense has allowed only 70.7 yards per game, second best in Northern California and No. 5 in the state.

SISKIYOUS HAS A STRONG PASSING ATTACK, headed by quarterback Gage Ferguson (133 of 245 for 1,760 yards and 16 touchdowns) with a 128.8 efficiency rating. His favorite receivers are Tremayne Tolbert (30 for 387 and 2 TDs) and Chance Nelson (29 for 372 yards and four TDs). The well balanced Eagles also have a good rushing duo of Grant Kingston (458 yards and three TDs) and Andrew Kannely-Robles (417 yards and seven scores). They average 176.7 yards passing and 171.9 yards rushing per game. COS linebacker Daniel Hardy led the NorCal League with eight sacks.
