RCC's Bailey Sets Decathlon Conference Record with 6,690 Points
The Orange Empire Conference Heptathlon and Decathlon Championships were highlighted by Phillip Bailey from Riverside Community College who scored a conference record 6690 points in the decathlon. The previous record (6520 points) was set in 2000 by Sheldon Davis from Santa Ana College.
According to Coach McCarron, "Phillip is one of the best overall athletes I have coached while at RCC. He has the ability to do something this season that has not been done in a generation at the community college level, which is to score 7000 points in a decathlon."
On the men's side the second place finisher was Winston Lawson of Orange Coast College whose total, 6557 points, would have also broken the conference record. Phillip and Winston's marks rank them number one and two in the state. On the women's side, RCC's Taylor Coffelt (4483 points) and Tricia Cervantes (4141 points) repeated as first and second place finishers for the second year in a row. Sabrina Howe from Orange Coast College (4123 points) also had a strong day capturing the third place position.
