Canyons Falls To LA Harbor, Eliminated From Postseason
The last three weeks was a demonstration of the good side of College of the Canyons men's basketball.
But on Wednesday night in the first round of the playoffs, the inconsistency that plagued COC earlier in the season came back to haunt it.
The Cougars fell 60-46 to Los Angeles Harbor College in the opening round of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regional playoffs at L.A. Harbor College.
That spells an end to a season in which COC (15-13) had to win four of its last six games to sneak into the playoffs.
"We had some really good wins. We had some really good showings, but just the consistency over the whole course of the season was lacking at times," said COC head coach Howard Fisher.
On Wednesday, it was a back-and-forth game where COC trailed 13-4 early before rallying back to tie the score 20-20 at halftime.
"They played with a whole lot more energy to start the game," Fisher said.
COC's comeback was anchored by sophomore guard Coley Apsay, who led COC with 17 points, and forward Tullio Parry, who had six points and seven rebounds.
The Cougars were behind most of the second half but kept the game close up until the last two minutes.
L.A Harbor (16-10) pulled away by making 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch.
Victor Nwaba added seven points and seven rebounds. Ricardo Greaves pulled down eight rebounds and blocked three shots for COC.
