HORNETS FALL IN GAME ONE OF ROUND TWO

HORNETS FALL IN GAME ONE OF ROUND TWO

On Friday, No. 1 Fullerton College fell victim to visiting No. 9 Cerritos College 3-1 to open Round 2 of the 3C2A Southern California Regionals.

The winner of this best of three regional series will move on to the 3C2A State Tournament at West Valley College May 16-19. It's do or die for Fullerton, who must now win two straight games against Cerritos tomorrow (Saturday, May 11th) in order to move on.

Cerritos got on the board first scoring a solo run in the second inning when Natalie Fraijo hit a single through the right side scoring Jimena Velazquez.

The Hornets matched the Falcons in the bottom of the second on Coco Siono's ground-out that plated Alyssa Garcia, who slid in from third.

Cerritos got two more across in the top of the third on two sacrifice flies by Marley Manalo and Nadia Landeros. That would be all that the Falcons needed as pitcher Reanna Carranza (31-12) kept the Hornet bats in check tossing a complete game with 1 earned run on 7 hits, had 1 walk, and 2 Ks.

FC starter Macy Brandl (21-3) took her third loss of the season after going 2.2 innings with 2 earned runs on 5 hits, had a walk, and 3 strikeouts. Allyson Fuentes came in to throw 4.1 innings while allowing only a hit with no runs, no walks, and 2 strikeouts.

Up Next: The No. 1 Hornets (38-5 overall) and No. 9 Falcons (31-12) will continue the second round of the three-game regional series on Saturday May 11th at 12:00 pm. If a game three is necessary, it will take place thirty minutes after game two. Click here to view the 3C2A Southern California Regional bracket.
