BASEBALL: RACING PAST THE COMETS

BASEBALL: RACING PAST THE COMETS

The FC baseball team made it three in a row beating Palomar College 7-6 at home Saturday afternoon.

It was a nice revenge-win for the Hornets who had lost to the Comets last Saturday in a 15-11 shootout. It was also a nice way to end a busy week on the road where Fullerton played five games since last Saturday.

Palomar took an early 2-0 lead in the top of one on Brady LaVoie's double that went down the left line. Jaisten Cabatbat and Cameron Rowles came around to score the runs.

The FC bats warmed up in the bottom 5th when Elias Rios ripped a double down the left field line scoring Brian Landon and Sawyer Chesley. Brock Denbo then hit a deep SAC fly to center giving Dean Drake the chance to cross home plate from third. Tony Accordino hit a single up the middle bringing Ryan Lamastra and Rios home.

Up 5-2 heading into the 6th, the Hornets gave up 3 runs allowing the Comets to tie it up at 5 apiece. Kevin Michaels singled to left field bringing in Bryce Roe. LaVoie knocked a single through the left side scoring Cabatbat and Noah Hemphill.

FC got one back in the bottom of the 6th to go up 6-5 on Drake's double to deep right field that scored Landon from first base. Drake tried to stretch his hit into a triple but was called out on the throw.

The Hornets got a needed security run in the bottom 8th when Drake walked with the bases loaded forcing Accordino across home plate.

Palomar managed a run in the bottom of the 9th on Hemphill's single to center, but FC reliever Steven Loera closed out the game earning his first save of the season. Reliever Joel Martinez grabbed his first win on the season going 2.1 innings with 4 hits against and 2 K's.

Up Next: The Hornets (4-5 overall) will play at Moorpark College on Tuesday, February 13th. Game time is at 2:00 pm.
