Women’s Tennis Advances to SoCal Regional Finals

TORRANCE, Calif. --- No. 1 seed El Camino College is headed to the California Community College Athletics Association Women's Tennis Southern California Regional Finals after a 5-3 victory over No. 6 L.A. Mission in the CCCAA SoCal Regional Semifinals on Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Tennis Courts.

With Tuesday's win, the Warriors have advanced the deepest into the postseason since 2013 when they were also the No. 1 seed and were upset in the regional semifinals. It will be the Warriors first appearance in the regional finals since 2003 when they lost to Grossmont. The Warriors also made a run to the regional finals in 2001 where they also lost to Grossmont.

The Warriors scored the victory on Tuesday despite having to default the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 6 singles match due to missing a player. Stefanie Liebich scored the match-clinching point with a win in her No. 4 singles match.

The Warriors will face a familiar foe in the regional final against No. 5 seed College of the Desert. The Roadrunners upset No. 2 seed Riverside on Tuesday. On the season, the Warriors beat Desert in both conference matches by scores of 5-2 on Feb. 10 and 6-3 on March 8. First serve is set for 2 p.m. on April 19 at the ECC Tennis Courts.
