Warriors Snag Fifth Straight Win on Sophomore Day

TORRANCE, Calif. --- El Camino College logged its fifth straight victory with a 6-4 South Coast Conference win over Compton on Tuesday afternoon at the ECC Softball Field.

Sophomore Malia Martin celebrated sophomore day with an outstanding day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.

Freshman Lilly Lewis went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Gabriela Ortega logged her seventh win in the circle after pitching 2.1 innings in relief. Kat Gutierrez closed out the win for her second save of the year.

For the Tartars, Serena Velez and Venezia Uribe each went 3-for-4 to lead the way.

The Tartars jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first as Velez singled to drive in Uribe.

But the Warriors answered quickly in their half of the inning as Martin belted a double to center field to score Cheyenne Navarro and then Julianna Vasquez singled to right to cash in Martin for a 2-1 lead.

The Tartars would catch the Warriors at 2-2 and then again at 3-3 after the top of the fourth. But the Warriors went up for good in the bottom of the fourth as Martin drove in a pair of runs with a single to third base and then Lewis hit an RBI single to center to make it 6-3.

The Warriors have now won 12 of their last 13 games and will return to action on Wednesday for their final road game of the season at Cypress.
