LOS ANGELES – The SBCC women's basketball team returned to the road Wednesday night to face LA Valley and fell by a final score of 78-42.

The Vaqueros are now 3-3, while the Monarchs improve to 2-0.

"We lost focus. Valley's a very good team," head coach Sandrine Krul said. "We have to fix the little things and come together as a team, because we don't win with one player, we win as a team and everyone has to do their part."

Santa Barbara was led on the night by guard Isabella Jensen Williams, who had her second double-double of the season with 11 team-highs of 11 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Katrina Regalado finished with fewer than 10 points for the first time this year, going for four points and seven rebounds.

Off the bench, Isabella Favazzo provided a spark knocking down 2-of-3 from three-point range for six points. Natalie Bautista and Lia Rodriguez added five points each.

"This is the sixth game for our freshmen and they are learning," Krul said. "Every game is an opportunity to get better and we have to transfer what we do in practice to games, because in practice, we are doing what we should do offensively and defensively."

SBCC got out to a slow start on offense, hitting just two shots over the first 11 minutes of the game. The Vaqueros kept things within reach with their defense, keeping things tied up at 4-4 past the midway point of the first quarter. The Monarchs ended the opening period with 13 points, their lowest scoring quarter of the night.

However, LA Valley would get hot, scoring 23 points in both the second and the third to take a 59-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

"The first three minutes we were right there," said Krul. "We have a another big one on Saturday versus Antelope Valley, so we will just continue to get better each game."

Saturday's matchup at AVC will begin at 6:00 p.m.
