SANTA BARBARA, CA – Sofia Orozco played a part in all three goals for the SBCC women's soccer team in a 3-1 win over Ventura in the Vaqueros' WSC opener on Friday at La Playa Stadium.

With their second straight win, the Vaqueros improve to 4-1-4 while Ventura falls to 4-5-3 overall, 2-1-0 conference.

"Playing against Ventura is always a battle, but the girls came out fired up and ready to battle," assistant coach Alex Zermeno said. "With no game on Tuesday, we were really able to get a full week to prep for this game. We had a gameplan going in and excecuted it almost perfectly. Sofia Orozco had a phenomenal game getting two goals and an assist in making an impact on all three goals, but this was really a team effort."

HOW IT HAPPENED
It wasn't long before Santa Barbara took the lead, as Orozco got things started several minutes in.

SBCC 1, Ventura 0 – Sofia Orozco 3' (English)
Theresa English had the ball moving down the left wing and played it into a great spot to Orozco in the center of the box. Orozco took it in, turned and fired a shot through a defender's legs and in to the far post to open the scoring.

SBCC 1, Ventura 1 – Alyssa Cornwell 38' (Cisneros)
The Pirates would equalize late in the first half on a goal by Alyssa Cornwell, assisted by Daisy Cisneros. However, the game wouldn't stay tied for long.

SBCC 2, Ventura 1 – Hannah McLain 44' (Orozco)
Orozco was found onside on the right side as she worked down to the end line. She sent in a low cross that cut through the defense right into the run of Hannah McLain, who struck a tidy shot into the left far post on first contact to put the Vaqueros back up.

SBCC 3, Ventura 1 – Sofia Orozco 51' (Bow Graham)
The Vaqueros took a two-goal lead six minutes into the second half. After winning the ball in midfield, Athena Bow Graham sent a gorgeous long ball over the top to Orozco in behind the defense. She used her angles well, taking one dribble as the keeper came out and tucked it inside the near post to secure her brace.

Goalkeeper Analea Pule would end the game with five saves. Through nine games, the Vaqueros have lost just once as Pule and the SBCC defense have held opponents to just three total goals.
