Jesni Copper and Kayla Wrobel lead Lady Vaqs to victories in Crossover Tourney Dec. 17-18

As a tandem for the Glendale College Women's Basketball Team, Jesni Cooper and Kayla Wrobel are proving to be difficult to' defend as Allan Hancock and Rio Hondo Colleges found out in the GCC Crossover event Friday and Saturday Dec. 17-18 at Glendale College.

In the 53-40 win over Hancock Friday, Cooper led GCC with 23 points on 10 of 19 from the field and three of seven from the 3-point line. Wrobel added 10 points in that win and a game high 15 rebounds, including five off the offensive glass. Cooper added five rebounds and three steals to her stat line as Glendale improved to 8-3 with the win.

On Saturday, Glendale rallied from a 36-32 deficit against Rio Hondo in the third quarter and took a 44-36 lead thanks to a 12-0 run with Wrobel scoring six of her team high 23 points in that span and Cooper chipped in with four of her 16 points in the 62-55 victory as Glendale improved to 9-3 with the win. Dyani Del Castillo and Wrobel added eight rebounds each, Hana Trieu and Ani Boyajyan had seven points each and Vicky Oganyan had six rebounds and hit six critical free throws to help seal the win.

The Lady Vaqs hit the road this week and play Wednesday Dec. 22 at Ventura College at 5 pm and host El Camino College in a home game Thursday Dec. 30 at 5 pm in the Verdugo Gym in their non-conference finale.
