El Cajon — In a game that the Griffins scored in every inning but the first, you wouldn't think it couldn't get scarry…but it did.

Grossmont (21-10, 14-4 PCAC) scored a 16-7 victory on Thursday, April 14th at Noel Michelson Field over the Knights of San Diego City (12-17, 7-11 PCAC).

The three-headed monster of Ethan Caschetta, Zavien Watson and Jack Allen led the Green and Gold with a combined 12-for-16 in the contest. Caschetta went four-for-five (with a pair driven in), Watson was four-for-five (with two RBI) and Allen went four-for-six (with three runs batted in).

On the mound, Jake Sargent (5-2) got the win with a impressive six innings, allowing six hits and just two runs (one earned) while sitting seven batters down.

Things didn't start out so well for the Griffins as Justin Kirby slugged a solo home run to right center field in the top of the first inning.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Griffins erupted for five runs to take control of the game that they would never relinquish.

Sean McGrew got the inning started off the painful way by getting hit by a pitch.  Skyler Agnew followed that with a walk.  Allen singled to load the bases.  Dante Juliano would get an easy RBI as he drew the bases loaded walk to bring home McGrew.  Noah Lane hit a sacrifice foul out to the shortstop allowing the runners to move up 90 feet.  Caschetta singled to center on a laser to bring in Allen and move Juliano to third.  Watson singled to drive in Juliano after an out.  Both Watson and Caschetta stole bases (Caschetta's was home) before a strikeout to end the inning.

In the third through sixth innings, the Griffins put two runs on the board in each frame.  At the end of six innings the score was 11-2 Grossmont.

Then the bullpen and infielders took a nap that lasted the seventh inning.  In that seventh inning, City scored five runs on three hits, a Griffin error and stranded the bases loaded.  At the stretch it was 13-7 Griffins.

The Griffins would tack on another three runs across the seventh and eighth to push the score up.

Both Grossmont and City will be right back at it tomorrow, Friday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Noel Michelsen Field to close out the season series.
