Success can be a double-edged sword and the GCC Women's Basketball Team found the sharp edge of that to be true Saturday March 4 in a third round Southern California Regional Playoff game against Palomar College. In the Lady Vaqs 30th game of the season, the No. 7 seeded Glendale squad played the unbeaten and No. 2 seeded Comets even as the 36 all halftime score indicated but the home team took advantage of numerous turnovers and a decided rebounding advantage in the second half to advance to the state tournament with a 77-60 victory.

While the loss ended the 2022-23 season for the Lady Vaqs at 24-6, the sixth straight winning season for head coach Joel Weiss and his teams was highlighted by the grit, determination and pure joy that has made the Glendale program one of the best in Southern California during his time on the GCC sidelines. The results this season were highlighted by a 13-1 record and fourth straight Western State Conference Southern Division Title and a winning streak that reached nine straight games and a second round So. Cal playoff home win last week over Allan Hancock College, 55-50.

But in the season's final game against Palomar, the Lady Vaqs battled themselves and the Comets but could not overcome 12 point third and fourth quarters despite the efforts led by a sophomore heavy squad. Faith Boulanger paced the offense with 17 points, five rebounds and two steals and Jesni Cooper had 12 points, four steals, three assists and three rebounds in their final game in GCC uniforms.
