MC women's basketball tops rival Ventura

Better late than never.

The Moorpark College women's basketball team defeated rival Ventura College 73-59 in its Western State Conference opener Saturday night in front of a limited capacity crowd due to the concern of recent COVID-19 surge.

The victory comes after the Raiders (12-2, 1-0 WSC) were shut down due to COVID-19 protocols within the program. Moorpark's last game before Saturday was Dec. 29 at East LA. The pause forced the postponement of two conference games against Allan Hancock on Jan. 5 and LA Pierce on Jan. 8, which have been rescheduled for Jan. 17 and 24, respectively.

Moorpark had five players score in double figures, led by Rebecca Saidoff's 20 points, which included five 3s. Skylar Dillon, Ashley Orozco and Kaydn Mew each had 10 points, and Julianna Martinez scored 11 off the bench.

The Raiders will be right back to it on Wednesday, Jan. 19 at home against Oxnard at 7 p.m. after the men's team makes its return to the floor for the first time since Dec. 10. The men are scheduled to play Oxnard at 5 p.m.
