Renegades ready to close the season as they shine at special night

There's nothing more special for a senior player -or in this case sophomore- to play their last game with their school. Yesterday was one of those nights, and the Ohlone Softball sophomores played their final game in front of their home crowd.  The Lady Renegades were sure to make that night special and brought their offensive power, beating Foothill College with an overwhelming 7-2.

The Renegades imposed their local advantage early in the game scoring four unanswered runs in the first two innings. Despite the early advantage, Foothill came close later on the game after a two-run rally in the fifth inning. However, Ohlone didn't panic and answered back with a three-run rally in the next inning (6th).  Once again, pitcher Karen Didio and catcher Selena Gomez were off great contribution for the team as Didio scored three runs after a double and single, while Gomez scored two after on a solid single. Didio pitched the entire game, only allowing two runs on eight hits, three walks, and three strikeouts.

After the victory, Ohlone's coach Julie Marshall was pleased with the team's performance – especially the sophomore players. "It was a great game for our sophomores. They all did great, they started and contributed in good form, it's nice to see that happen," said Marshall.  Marshall also appreciated the memories and bond with their sophomores, "Today, we were creating memories. You know, from day one until today we had some ups and downs, we had a great time, and today we told them to just live the moment."

Standing second in the conference, the Renegades would play their next and last three games on the road, playing a two-game series at West Valley and finishing with a big game against conference leaders San Mateo.  Definitely, The Renegades aren't having an easy close to the season, especially on that last match against San Mateo as coach Marsha, l refer to them as a team that's "always tough". Last time both teams saw each other the Peninsula team came victorious after a close 6-4 game.  However, this time coach Marshall feels confident as the team performed well back in that game. Moreover, Marshall now counts with more weapons as she and her staff scouted San Mateo over the weekend. "We played them very well last time we met them, and we scout them a little bit last weekend. We're very confident coming into that game, two coaches, fighting for it, let's see what happens," said Marshall.

Time will tell if the Renegades come through and claim that conference title. They would have to show their best game first against West Valley and then after San Mateo.
