MARAUDER FOOTBALL PUTS TOGETHER COMPLETE GAME AND SHUT OUTS MT. SAN JACINTO 34-0 IN SEASON OPENER
Marauder Football opened the 2015 campaign with a 34-0 win over Mt. San Jacinto, looking more like the Perry Jehlicka teams that dominated the Foothill and American Pacific than any in the last four or so years.
Taking doses of other teams, the Marauders combined a successful run-pass combination game, a stifling defense and a little created "luck" to put together the complete game
Offensively, the Marauders gained 340 yards – 129 of those via a Blake Shepherd 12 for 22 for 129 yard and two TDs passing day. It was an eight-yard pass to Derek Denton that opened up the scoring four minutes into the game.
Alex Byers scored the final points on a 17 yard reception from Shepherd. Byers led AVC with a four receptions for 64 yards on the day.
In between the two pass plays were two rushing TDs from Ed Martin, scoring from four and 55 yards out. Martin gained 107 of the Marauders 211 rushing yards on the day.
The other TD – the fourth in the game came on a fumble return in the end one by Trevonte Coleman. Adam Suruy led AVC in tackles with 10, while Coleman recorded nine tackles on the day, including a sack for a Marauder defense that dominated the Eagle offense.
Coleman's sack was one of six (by six different Marauders) on Mt. San Jacinto's quarterback Jake Newton, resulting in minus 59 yards rushing for him. Overall, the Eagles were minus 15 yards rushing, with their longest rush just 11 yards.
It was the first time since 2008 that AVC held an opponent to less than 60 total yards and minus yardage on the ground and AVC's fourth shutout against the Eagles – the last in 2007 as well as the first shutout since 2009 when they blanked Santa Monica 55-0.
